Food and Nutrition Supervisor (FNS)

Overview
VBCH is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) supervisor to join our team. This key position will provide support to the Food and Nutrition Services department, ensuring the highest standards of quality and service. The ideal candidate is committed to delivering consistently high-quality service while maintaining a patient-centered mindset. They must be a collaborative team player, able to work seamlessly with their manager and other departmental managers to achieve excellence in all areas. Previous experience in food service is required and supervisory experience preferred.
Primary Function
Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Food and Nutrition department including meal planning and preparation for hospital patients, employees and guests, nutrition consulting, inventory control, and assists with budgeting and purchasing. The Food and Nutrition Supervisor is also responsible for assisting with food service employees -- scheduling, hiring, employee relations and performance management when needed. Additionally, they should expect to interact with numerous employees and guests on a daily basis; communication and customer service are important functions of the position.
Position Responsibilities
- Ensure sustainability of departmental policies and procedures, goals and objectives, and standard of work for the food and nutrition department
- Determine priorities, plan schedules, and order needed food supplies
- Ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulatory agencies including maintaining quality control measures to ensure temperature, attractiveness, and palatability of food. Ensures all staff maintain appropriate licensure
- Inspects all work areas to ensure cleanliness and confirm cleaning and sanitation requirements are maintained
- Ensure infection control practices are always met and maintained
- Assists the Support Services Manager with departmental personnel matters to include interviewing and the hiring of new staff, evaluating work performance, promotions, counseling, discipline and termination
- Responsible for training of new Food and Nutrition staff
- Ensures that the dietary food service workers are adequately trained, equipped, and motivated so that the department can function in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner
- Adequately train and work with staff to ensure that all tracking forms in Food and Nutrition are being accurately kept by established deadlines and timelines
- Communicate clearly with dietary staff to ensure accuracy of Food and Nutrition orders for patients
- Reconciliation of daily cafeteria revenue with receipts of daily lunch and snack money
- Check all deliveries of food supplies for accuracy against invoice from vendor
- Assist the Support Services Manager with developing the annual operating budget, which includes personnel, supplies and food expense. Continue to monitor budget after adoption
- Approves and adjusts menus through the direction of the dietitian and supervises personnel while preparing patient trays to ensure food is prepared, cooked and correct portion size is established per policies and procedures
- Ensures the Food and Nutrition staff serve patients, staff, and guests utilizing a high degree of customer service
- Facilitates catering of hospital meals and special events as needed
- Performs any and/or all of the duties in the kitchen, tray line, cafeteria and dish room as required by staffing shortages
- Supports the cross training of staff across the Support Services department portfolio
- Embraces departmental growth opportunities and collaborates with Support Services Manager on new ways to grow departmental revenue

Education, Certification, and Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent is required
- CFSM certification is required
- CDM certification is required, if not current, must complete within 180 days of hire
- Supervisory experience is preferred
