Patient Access Representative – Farmington Medical Clinic
Van Buren County Hospital is seeking a Patient Access Representative primarily based at Farmington Medical Clinic in Farmington, Iowa. As a primary point of contact for patients and families, this position plays an important role in creating a welcoming, professional patient experience while ensuring accurate and efficient Patient Access services.
This position supports patient registration, scheduling, insurance verification, payment collection, referrals, and other Patient Access functions. The position is primarily based at Farmington Medical Clinic and may rotate to other VBCH clinic locations as needed to support staffing and operational coverage.

Key Responsibilities
- Greet and assist patients, families, and visitors in a professional and courteous manner.
- Register patients and accurately obtain and verify demographic, insurance, and billing information.
- Schedule clinic appointments, services, and referrals according to established workflows.
- Collect copayments and other patient payments and accurately document transactions.
- Obtain required registration documentation, signatures, consents, and acknowledgments.
- Complete assigned registration, scheduling, referral, and Revenue Cycle work queues.
- Scan and appropriately maintain required documentation within the electronic health record.
- Respond to patient inquiries and provide appropriate scheduling and Patient Access information.
- Work collaboratively with providers, nursing staff, Revenue Cycle, and other VBCH departments.
- Maintain accuracy, confidentiality, and attention to detail in all Patient Access functions.
- Cross-train and provide coverage at other VBCH clinic locations as operational needs require.
The revised JD specifically establishes scheduling/referrals and front-end insurance and financial responsibilities as part of the position.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Current AHA BLS certification required or must be obtained within the timeframe established by VBCH.
- Previous customer service, healthcare, medical office, registration, scheduling, insurance, or related administrative experience preferred.
- Previous healthcare registration or Patient Access experience preferred.
- Previous experience with electronic records or computer-based information systems preferred.
- Strong customer service, communication, computer, and organizational skills.
- Ability to learn and effectively use Epic and other assigned electronic systems.
