Our Programs

The Healthy Villages Program is free to all Van Buren County residents and includes:

  • Health Screenings: Including blood pressure, weight, waist measurement, BMI, Blood Sugar and goal setting.
  • Mini-Fitness Centers
  • Health Education Classes
  • Health Tips and Healthy Recipes
  • Chronic Disease Self-Management Workshop
  • Quitline Iowa
  • Eat Right for Life Classes
  • Freedom from Smoking Classes
  • Community Garden

Community Gardens are currently located in:

  • Keosauqua - Next to the Pearson House
  • Bonaparte - Next to the Bonaparte Improvement Association building (Old Elementary School)
  • Van Buren Community Schools- Elementary and High School

Mini-Fitness Centers are currently located in:

  • Birmingham - Closed until new location is found
  • Cantril - Township Hall (Open anytime)
  • Douds - United Methodist Church Basement
  • Farmington -  Closed until new location is found

  • Keosauqua - City Hall (201 Main Street)
  • Bonaparte- Bonaparte Improvement Assoication Building (old Harmony Elementary Building)

Farmers Markets

  • Keosauqua: Every Tuesday from 4:00-6:00 at the city park.
  • Farmington: Every Friday from 3:30-6:30 at the shelter by the river.
  • Bonparte- Every Thursday from 3:00-6:00 pm 1st Street
  • Bentensport- Every Saturday from 10:00 am- 1:00pm in the park.

Better Choices Better Health- Chronic Disease Self-Management

Better Choices, Better Health is a free workshop that can help you get the support that you need and find practical ways to deal with pain, fatigue, and stress.  You'll discover better nutrition and exercise choices, understand new treatment options, and learn better ways to talk with your doctor and family about your health.

Quitline Iowa

When you're ready to quit using tobacco the Quitline is there to help. Quitline Iowa has a long track record helping people quit tobacco.  The coaches can provide the help you personally and to succeed too. You can get free materials in the mail, covering helpful topics such as cravings and stress management.

Eat Right For Life Classes

The Eat Right for Life Classes teaches participants how to eat right and how to make those changes so they can continue on with them for a life time.  This is a ten week program that meets weekly for 30 minutes and offers weekly-ins.  There is a small cost for this program.  For more information contact Amanda Payne.
