Van Buren County Hospital (VBCH) is pleased to announce that as of September 22nd, the hospital and clinics will begin using the EPIC medical record. Van Buren County Hospital is the first hospital in the state to link into the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinic’s (UIHC) medical record. This new system will enhance patient care in a number of ways.
The physicians at UIHC will have immediate access to VBCH’s medical record in the case of consults or emergency transfers. The local providers will have immediate access to our patients’ records when they are transferred back home for continued care. And, our patient will have access to their own personal medical records through MyChart through the internet.
In order for this smooth, seamless care to occur, patient must “opt in” for sharing their records with UIHC. If a patient elects not to share their medical information with UIHC, such information will only be viewed by the local staff. However, for ease of treatment, consults, and transfers, patients are urged to “opt in” to the shared record.
